Playboi Carti protege and popular rapper Destroy Lonely came to Stage AE on Thursday to headline his first show in Pittsburgh on his Love Lasts Forever tour.
Lone’s last appearance in Pittsburgh was in December 2021, when he and fellow label affiliate, Ken Carson opened up for Playboi Carti and his Whole Lotta Red tour.
Despite the overall hype for Thursday’s show and the expectations of fans, Lone’s performance was insanely lackluster, with Lone not really displaying any energy. Besides barely even rapping along with his backing track, Lone mostly stood there and just waited for the show to be over.
The setlist was nothing special, featuring his usual hits like “No Stylist,” “How U Feel,” and “If Looks Could Kill.” They were all very cool to hear live, but they would have been entirely better if Lone actually rapped instead of emoting and pump-faking the mic.
Lil 88, a popular producer for Lone and fellow labelmates, had a DJ set before the main show that was one of the most disappointing DJ sets ever. His constant spamming of random sound effects and 808’s was tantamount to that of an enraged chimpanzee on a MacBook and DJ table.
He sounded someone scrolling TikTok: He cued up the most popular 30 seconds of a song and then a bunch of random sound effects before finally moving onto the next track.
