The 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday featured amazing performances, fundraising for Los Angeles fire aid, and wins that were predictable in some categories and surprising in others.
This award show was opened by Dawes, which saluted Los Angeles with a performance of Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” alongside John Legend, St. Vincent, Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, and Brittany Howard.
For the Best Pop Album award, the nominees were Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift. Many debated who would win, but ultimately, Carpenter took home the win for Short & Sweet, earning her first Grammy.
Kendrick Lamar swept all categories he was nominated in: Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. Doechii received her first Grammy for Best Rap Album, Alligator Bites Never Heal.
Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga have had an insane run the past months with “Die with a Smile,” and they were rewarded for it with Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Grammy.
Beyoncé won Album of the Year over Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift. This win could be seen as surprising because the other artists’ albums have been very popular.
As for performances, Eilish performed her hit song “Birds of a Feather,” Carpenter mashed up her songs “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” in a messy, jazzy way, and Roan performed “Pink Pony Club” with amazing scenery, props, and background dancers.
The Weekend surprised everyone by performing at the event. He had boycotted the Grammys for four years due to the Recording Academy not being diverse enough, but on Sunday he performed “Cry For Me” and “Timeless.”
There was a beautiful tribute to Quincy Jones with Cynthia Erivo singing “Fly Me to the Moon” with Herbie Hancock.
