The Baldwin hockey team lost to Hempfield 5-4 in overtime on Thursday night.
Junior forward Mack Dempsey said Hempfield didn’t allow the Highlanders to pull away.
“Hempfield’s offense really kept them in the game. Every time we scored they came right back and scored,” Dempsey said.
Senior defenseman Joey O’Neill said Dempsey played a smart and aggressive game.
“Mack was a key part of our team, scoring a hat trick. He took good shots and always made the right decision,” O’Neill said.
One key moment came when Dempsey scored at the end of the second period.
“I scored right before the end of the second, and that gave us all the momentum going into the third,” Dempsey said.
The Highlanders said that while Hempfield’s offense was good, Baldwin’s defense could have been stronger.
“We could have been tighter and smarter in the D zone,” O’Neill said.
Although the Highlanders suffered a tough loss, there are some bright spots to build off of going into the home stretch of their season.
“Our offense looked sharp. We kept high energy throughout the game and that led to goals,” Dempsey said.
The Highlanders’ next game will be at 7 p.m. Thursday against Bishop McCort at home.
