Upperclassmen save lives with blood drive

BY HALEY KERR

Staff Writer

Baldwin upperclassmen donated enough blood to save about 225 lives during the Central Blood Bank drive Tuesday and Wednesday.

The drive on collected about 75 units of blood, English teacher Susan Fagnilli, who helped to organize the blood drive, said. Each unit raised translates to about one pint of blood, and every pint of blood can save the lives of three people, Fagnilli said.

Fagnilli is proud of this year’s outcome and hopeful for next year’s.

“Our results were a little less than what we had last year, but we’re expecting more in the spring since this one took place right after Thanksgiving break,” Fagnilli said.

The Central Blood Bank will be holding another blood drive at the high school on April 14-15.

“It’s important to give back. We’re hoping that participants see that donating blood is less daunting now that they’ve done it, and we hoped to create lifelong donors,” Fagnilli said.
