Lots of Baldwin students make sacrifices for good causes, but it takes a special type of person to leap into a freezing river to help others.
When the Special Olympics Polar Plunge occurs on Dec. 6 at Heinz Field, Baldwin’s Special Olympics Club will be there, ready to jump and then shiver.
Special Olympics members, family, and friends are participating in the event. Special Olympics Club sponsor Timothy Laughlin encourages everyone to come down and see the event.
“The idea is to raise money for a really good cause,” Laughlin said. Members and non-members alike can participate in the festivities. “We raise money in multiple ways. People can make donations, or they can pledge for someone to plunge.”
Last year Laughlin said it was freezing cold, and the weather was unbearable, but it was all worth it.
“It is still a good time no matter the weather conditions. It is a good event and it is a great feeling to participate in in,” he said.
