Eleven area schools came to Baldwin on Friday to participate in the annual Special Olympics volleyball tournament.
Among the schools participating were Moon, Mt. Lebanon, and Peters Township. Students from Baldwin’s Special Olympics Club and Partners PE classes helped run the event.
The tournament included both competitive volleyball games and non-competitive volleyball activities. Tim Laughlin, co-sponsor of the Special Olympics Club, said the event is fun for the athletes and rewarding for the students and teachers who organize the event.
“I get a lot of personal satisfaction out of seeing our students shine,” Laughlin said.
Senior Michael Bower agreed.
“There’s always a kid who can make you smile in this program,” he said.
