Guidance counselor rows for cancer awareness

BY LAURA HARPER

Staff Writer

Guidance counselor Caroline Babik participated in the Sarasota Dragon Boat Festival in Florida last weekend to raise awareness for breast cancer.

A total of 101 teams participated and six counties were represented. Babik’s team, called Pink Steel, came in second overall, behind a team in Canada.

Babik said she became interested in this event because she is a breast cancer survivor, and she has always been interested in rowing and paddling.

“It gives me a chance to connect with women who went through the same thing,” Babik said. “I want to show the positive side of it as opposed to the sadness of being sick.”
