Hempfield shuts out baseball team

Despite the rough performance, there were still some bright spots.

Despite the rough performance, there were still some bright spots.

The baseball team fell by a margin of 10-0 against Hempfield on Tuesday. During the away game, Baldwin struggled to get hits, and their difficulties were compounded after an early injury.

“One of our starters got injured early,” senior second baseman Adam Ledbetter said. The player in question, junior catcher Matt Nowicki, “got hit by a pitch in the face.”

The Highlanders have struggled early in the season, with an overall record of 1-6. Moreover, the team struggled with hitting throughout the game.

For their part, Hempfield had some serious depth.

“Hempfield’s strength was hitting. Every guy from one to nine can hit – they all have power,” Ledbetter said. “We need to work on hitting consistently, all throughout the order.”

Despite the rough performance, there were still some bright spots.

“Logan Tepedino was the freshman who pitched, and he did the best,” Ledbetter said. “But the score just didn’t go our way.”

The team’s next game is at 4 p.m. today at home against the same opponent.

“We all have to change our approaches coming into the game tonight,” Ledbetter said. “If we see a first-pitch fastball, we just need to jump on it as a team. We need to work with runners in scoring position, try to get some runs in.”
