Baldwins girls tennis team competes in the fall, and boys compete in the spring.

The Baldwin boys tennis team lost 5-0 against Fox Chapel on Wednesday.

“This matchup was tough, because Fox Chapel is extremely good at tennis,” junior Kelson Kleinhampl said. “Their serves were insane.”

Despite the loss, the team hopes to start their season strong in several areas.

“The team did well overall on service and service return,” senior Jacob Pyle said.

Pyle said sophomore Nikita Petruk and junior Sam Vogel did particularly well.

“Nikita and Sam did great on their service and sportsmanship,” he said.

For his part, Kleinhampl was satisfied with his mental attitude.

“I was pretty happy with how we did. We had a good mindset and made the best out of a tough match,” he said.

Since it is so early in the season, Pyle said the team “needs to work on overall confidence and do some work on basic skills.”

Kleinhampl hopes for a better outcome with upcoming matches.

“Our goal for the season is to just win. We face a lot of really good schools, so we just want to do the best we can and do well,” Kleinhampl said.

Pyle agreed.

“I am hoping the season goes well and I am hoping to get a couple wins under our belt by the end of the season,” Pyle said.

In practice, Head Coach Stellanie Kyros is working extensively on fundamentals.

“Nailing really basic skills, like the forehand and backhand, is critical,” Kleinhampl said. “I also want to improve my own serve.”

The team has another match today against South Fayette.
