The Baldwin Fighting Highlander basketball teams play in the 6A division.

The boys basketball team came up with a huge victory on Thursday, defeating Upper St. Clair on the road to move into a tie for first place in the section.

Baldwin came up on top in the close game, 55-54.

Junior Matt Schenk said everyone on the team put in a strong effort throughout the game.

“We weren’t accepting a loss, no matter what,” Schenk said. “So everyone was locked in and focused on the end goal.”

Upper St. Clair kept the game close and took a quick lead in the fourth quarter, Schenk said. But sophomore Max Marzina and senior Jaden Duttine both made important three-pointers as Baldwin rallied, he said.

The Highlanders moved into a three-way tie for first place in the section with Mount Lebanon and USC, strengthening Baldwin’s goal of winning the section.

Even with the hard-earned win, the boys plan on working to reduce turnovers, Schenk said.

The Highlander plays again on Tuesday night against Trinity at home for senior night.
