Girls soccer loses to USC

The Baldwin girls soccer team is losing 4-0 at half-time to Upper Saint Clair.

The Baldwin girls soccer team lost 5-0 to Upper Saint Clair on Wednesday night.

Senior Mikalah Beardsley said the team needs to do a better job at attacking.

“We need to get better at pushing numbers upfield and attacking with more girls,” Beardsley said.

Senior Alexa Meyer agreed.

“We had a really difficult time getting the ball out of our own half. We have to get better at getting players upfield to receive the ball,” Meyer said.

Going into the game, the Highlanders already knew how strong their opponent was.

“They are just a well developed and disciplined team. They have a lot of players who play competitively,” Meyer said.

In spite of the final score, Beardsley is happy with the team’s performance this year.

“Honestly, we’re doing better than last year. We have improved a lot from last season. We focus more on the fundamentals and we’re improving our results in the second half of this season,” Beardsley said.

Meyer praised her teammates.

“Emma Lieu did well closing down shots, and Mia Beardsley did well putting pressure on the other players. We also had good pressure through the midfield,” Meyer said.

The team’s record is 3-9 overall. Their next game is at home at 7 p.m. today against Steel Valley High School.
