The Baldwin Fighting Highlanders football team plays in WPIAL 5A section.

The Baldwin football team will face off against North Allegheny today and the team will look a little different this week.

The team is going to start sophomore quarterback Nico Macurak, which will be his first start on the high school varsity team. After his big second half last Friday against Upper St. Clair, the team hopes he can ride his hot start and give them the best chance to win against North Allegheny.

Senior Keith Minicin thinks the team won’t have to simplify things for the sophomore during the game.

“We didn’t make any major changes to the playbook,” he said. “I think he will be able to keep up with the intensity.”

Senior Andrew Sharp thinks building off last week also will require another change.

“We have to go out and play all four quarters,” he said. “We cannot only show up for the last two quarters of the game.”

Both Mincin and Sharp think the team chemistry they have built over the past few months will be a big part of this game.

“For him only being a sophomore, he has a chance to really be big for us,” Sharp said. “I know he has the talent to lead the way for us.”

Mincin agreed.

“It’s going to be different but we all have team chemistry,” Mincin said. “He brings a different play style to the game.”

The game starts tonight at 7 p.m.
