Arena scheduling was better for everyone

Attempting to make schedules for the next school year is always tough for students, but now it has become more stressful.

It has been decided that the high school will be making schedules for students next year, using the class requests that students have already put in Skyward. This is an unfortunate decision.

Having counselors and administrators making schedules is going to be a lot more time consuming. There are hundreds of students in each grade, while only a few adults will be making schedules. It would be less time consuming for each student to just make their own schedule.

Also, many students suffer from social anxiety, which will become a bigger problem with this new setup. Students typically like to be in classes with their friends because it makes them feel more comfortable, but now they won’t have that relief. Being stuck in a room with unfamiliar faces can be scary for some students.

Some students are so busy out of school that their main form of interaction with one another comes through classes in school. It is so much easier to communicate in person rather than through social media, which is why it isn’t bad to want to have classes with friends.

School officials will stress about how addicted students are to social media, yet take away this way to ensure the chance to talk with friends in classes.

Students also will be less likely to get the classes they want during the time slot they want. Most people like to pick harder classes for the time of the day in which it is easiest for them to focus. Some students work better in the morning than in the afternoon, and school officials will not know that.

There is also a chance that two different classes will only be available at the same time, then school officials would have to pick one. This is unfair, because they will not know which class would benefit the student more.

Having the high school do the schedules is just making things harder than they need to be.
