A lot of people have trouble being quiet for short periods of time, but a national organization hosts a whole day where a large number of people stay silent.
The National Day of Silence is a day in which students across the country vow silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools.
“I have a lot of friends who has been disrespected and I have been disrespected, so I like people to see that they aren’t alone and that people will speak up for them when they don’t have the courage,” junior Shyanne Lion said.
The Day of Silence brings attention to people who have been bullied into silence and have even committed suicide due to the bullying and abuse they have endured.
“It’s hard not to talk, but it’s worth it. It is for a good cause, and if you have the determination and dedication to the cause, then it’s worth not speaking for a day,” Lion said.
