Smorey urges votes for student facing terminal cancer

BY MICHAELA INDINO

Staff Writer

Senior athlete Luke Smorey, who has made the second round of a USA Today competition for most inspiring athlete, is asking his supporters to vote instead for another student who has a terminal brain tumor.

“Although I am very thankful of everyone’s votes, I would like to ask for all of you to vote for a contestant who I have found much more inspirational than myself,” Smorey said in an email. “His name is Dominique Cooks. He was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and only has a few weeks to live.”
