Seniors have to stay in school all day Friday while freshmen through juniors get a half day, but administrators said a program they have put together for the seniors should make the time well spent.

Due to multiple snow days this past winter, seniors have to stay for the full day to reach the required number of school hours necessary for graduation, since the school year ends for seniors several days before it does for other students.

Assistant Principal Candee Nagy, who coordinated the afternoon program for seniors, said she wants this day to be worthwhile.

“I want students to get something out of this, little tidbits of ‘adulting’ information,” Nagy said. “This should have value for them.”

The afternoon, which includes a pizza and salad lunch sponsored by the senior class, will feature programs designed for seniors as they prepare for life after high school:

  • An update on graduation project requirements, from teachers Adam Foote, Natalie Grattan, and Rich Deemer.
  • A presentation by Dr. Armani Davis from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, who went from living on his own as a high school junior to becoming a professor, on how to make and implement a plan for personal success.
  • A presentation by Dr. Deborah Gilman on self-care and mindfulness after high school.
  • A session on finances for young adults, covering topics such as taxes, debt, and credit scores, by Alex Kline of Duncan Financial Group.
  • A presentation about the importance of giving back through volunteering, from community volunteer and advocate Melanie Crockard.

Nagy is hoping for a positive response from seniors, and will be putting out a response survey for their opinions on the day.
