Lachut becomes WPIAL champion

Junior Nick Lachut is a WPIAL champion, having won the pole vault competition on Thursday.

Lachut beat his previous personal record of 13 feet, nine inches at WPIAls by a full foot, clinching the first place spot.

“I’m really proud of myself for working so hard throughout the season,” Lachut said.

Senior David Johnston came in second place, and it is the first time the Highlanders have placed in both first and second in pole vaulting since 1992.

Lachut and Johnston were the only two remaining at the height of 14 feet, 9 nine inches.

“The team has worked hard all season, and it feels good to have it pay off,” Lachut said.

Lachut and Johnston will compete in states on Saturday in Shippensburg.
