The Baldwin boys track team secured a spot in the WPIAL finals Tuesday night, winning their first-round playoff meet due to an important run by the 4×4 team.

Baldwin defeated Hempfield, Gateway, and Uniontown.

Junior Nick Lachut, who runs the 4×4 with sophomore Brendan O’Malley, junior Arlen Hooks, and senior Casey Conboy, praised the team on a fantastic run.

“This was our best run all season and was important for our spot in the finals,” Lachut said.

The distance runners and field teams both stepped up and turned in one of their best performances all season, Lachut said.

“(Distance runners) stepped up when they had to and field did as well. Overall it was a great performance,” Lachut said.

Lachut knows how prestigious this is for Baldwin track.

“We do not make it to the finals very often. We only have a few individual WPIAL champs ever,” Lachut said.
