The baseball team suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Mt. Lebanon on Friday afternoon, losing 5-4.

The Highlanders had taken the lead in the third inning and led all the way through until the top of the seventh when they gave up a two-run home run. Baldwin only needed one more out to win the game.

“We had been doing really well,” senior Anthony Rago said. “A ball got down the third base line and they capitalized and hit the home run.”

The loss damaged Baldwin’s playoff hopes as they need to win and get some help from other teams, but the players believe they can do it. Baldwin is one game behind Bethel in the standings.

“The loss hurt us a little but we know we can win out,” senior Peter Griener said. “If we win out, we need Bethel to lose one game and we are back in it.”

The boys play Canon-McMillan today followed by Allderdice on Friday and Bethel Park next week to finish out section play.
