Senior Liam Watterson broke the school record in the 200 Individual Medley at the swimming WPIALs on Thursday.

Watterson came in at 2:00.76, just .16 seconds faster than the previous record of 2:00.92, which was set in 1995. He placed 13th overall in the 200 IM at WPIALs.

This achievement did not come as a surprise to Watterson, who said it had been his goal since the start of the swim season.

“It was my goal to break the school record,” he said, “I was working for it all year.”

Watterson also set a personal record on Friday in the 100 backstroke.

He said he was pleased in his WPIAL performance and that he was happy his teammates competed well also.

“I couldn’t think of a better way to have my last WPIALs end,” he said.
