Highlander Pride recognition program returns

After a short hiatus, Baldwin’s student and staff recognition award ceremony, Highlander Pride, is returning.

The program was started about a decade ago, during the building construction project. After a brief break the first semester of this year, the program is up and running once again.

The Highlander Pride program honors students and staff who stand out in one of eight categories: School Spirit, Community Service, Creativity, Extra Effort, Role Model, Leadership, Responsibility, and Most Improved.

Previously the program ran monthly, and focused on only one category per month. Under the new design, Highlander Pride will run quarterly, and students and staff can be recognized in any of the eight categories every time.

Dr. Daniel Harrold, who is helping with the logistics of the new program, said one goal is to see students get more involved in the nominating process.

“We’re trying to push student nominations, rather than teacher nominations,” Harrold said.

Within the first day of nominations being accepted, a dozen were submitted. Nominations are due by Feb. 17, with the first Highlander Pride ceremony taking place March 16.
