The cheerleading squad will be going to states for the fourth year in a row after winning in its tournament on Saturday.

The Highlanders competed against Norwin, Indiana High, and South Park, placing first in their size category and third in the AAA division.

Senior Emmy Palatucci said Norwin was their biggest competitor at the tournament.

“They have a good routine,” Palatucci said. “Our scores are always really close to theirs.”

Norwin and South Park will also be moving onto the state competition, which takes place in Hershey.

“Norwin will be our biggest competitor there too,” Palatucci said.

The team has had some difficulties throughout their season due to girls not being able to participate. The squad had to change routines and bring in new people last minute in order to use their routine.

“It was nerve-wracking, but we figured it out,” Palatucci said.

State will take place on Jan. 19 and 20. After that, the squad will travel to Disney to compete in nationals in February.
