The girls volleyball team defeated Allderdice in the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday.  Baldwin swept the match, which included a dominating 25-11 victory in the first set.

“A big key to the game was that we kept our focus the whole time,” senior Maddi Sgattoni said.

At one point in the match, all four freshmen who are on the team were on the court together.   Freshman Anna Baloh made her first appearance for the varsity team in the state playoff game.

“It was Anna’s first time getting in and she wasn’t nervous at all, which helped her stay relaxed and just play,” Sgattoni said.

The team advances to the state quarterfinals.   The Highlanders believe they need to focus on defense to continue to win.

“We need to improve communication and we are improving by practicing more defense and serving in practice,” Sgattoni said.
