The Highlander marching band competed in the Tournament of Bands at Penn Trafford High School Saturday and won its division.

Senior Malia Mueller, a drum major who also plays the clarinet, said there were eight to 10 other bands there.  McKeesport, McGuffey, and Yough were some of the other bands competing in the tournament.

Band members went to the competition not knowing how they would do, but they were hoping for the best, Mueller said.

Junior Kaylee Wahl, a drum major who plays the flute, said the band finished with a score of 85.2 out of 100.

“I think we had a really good performance, and we definitely got the score we deserved,” Wahl said.

Mueller agreed.

“We were really excited when we found out how well we did,” Mueller said.
