The girls volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season to Upper St. Clair on Thursday.  It was the girls’ first loss in WPIAL play in the last two years.

“We had a lack of communication but I feel we put in 100 percent energy,” senior Maddi Sgattoni said.

The match went to five sets, with the Highlanders falling 15-12 in the fifth set.

“It’s the beginning of the season. We aren’t where we want to be and we know that,” Sgattoni said.

Even with the loss, the team feels there were a few good signs.  The team did not get nervous when behind, and played with mental toughness, which will pay dividends later in the season, Sgattoni said.

“In practice, we will focus on putting the little things together and becoming more focused,” Sgattoni said.
