After having a bye in the first round, the girls softball team is getting ready to face Peters Township on Monday in the second round of WPIAL playoffs.

“We played them twice this season,” senior Ana Hale said. “Both games we 10-runned them.”

To continue their successful ways, the girls must stay focused, she said.

“Peters has some really good pitchers,” Hale said. “We cannot go into the game cocky; we must remain focused.”

The Highlanders recently won their second consecutive section championship. Hale said the girls were successful this year because of the family atmosphere.

“We are really close with one another,” Hale said. “We work hard and really want to win.”

The success has been a team effort.

“The seniors lead the team this year,” Hale said. “Carly Santillo, Taylor Dedig, and Sam Wampler are underclassmen who greatly contribute to the team.”
