A World War II veteran who is the grandfather of a Baldwin student council member will be the first recipient of the new Baldwin’s Finest award today after school.

Student council will honor Joseph Conboy, grandfather of junior Casey Conboy, at the event, which will be held at 2:45 in Room 102. Joseph Conboy served on a PT boat during World War II.

Conboy is being presented the award for “going above and beyond the call of duty to help others,” student council sponsor Karl Geisler said.

Casey Conboy said he was pleased that his grandfather is being honored.

“It’s a pretty cool feeling,” he said. “I feel it’s well-deserved because he has received six battle stars as well as various medals and ribbons for his service.”

Student council members already have more people they would like to honor, and the plan is to recognize one person each quarter.
