When thinking of Marvel movies, one typically thinks of a family-friendly type of movie. Deadpool is not that movie. The movie revolves around the origin story of the notorious anti-hero Deadpool, former hitman Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds). After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Wilson desperately subjects himself to an underground practice that promises to cure his cancer and give him superhuman abilities. The experiment goes awry and Wilson ends up horribly disfigured, so he dons the infamous red suit and adopts the name Deadpool. While the plot may seem tragic, the heartbreak is downplayed by copious amounts of raunchy humor. While there are times when the jokes are funny, the humor is way over-sexualized and completely reliant on vulgarity to the point of overkill, making the target audience for Deadpool seemingly teenage boys who play video games in their mom’s basement. Overall, Deadpool is a must-see for any Marvel fan, but other than that the movie holds little value.
