Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing tells a great side story for the game Project Sekai: Colorful Stage.
Project Sekai, produced by Sega and Colorful Palette, is about high school students expressing their true feelings through music in an alternative world called “Sekai” with the help of Hatsune Miku, a virtual singer.
In this universe, people’s genuine feelings create a Sekai, and depending on the feeling, the Sekai can look different for everyone.
Miku is “vocaloid,” and people can use her voice, altering the vocals to create songs. But this movie introduces another Miku, who has troubles with singing. So she goes to five different groups, with the movie’s focus being on Leo/Need, a Japanese rock band.
Miku asks for advice from every group, and it ultimately fails as she still struggles to connect with her listeners. She must find another way to develop her own voice.
This is one of the better game-based movies. It’s also written quite deeply for a kids’ movie.
However, one issue is that the Miku who can’t sing is always singing the same words with the same tune. It’s essential to the plot as it’s the only thing that she can sing, but it does get repetitive.
