A total of 111 bracelets made by students in Crafts 1 recently were donated to the oncology clinic at Children’s Hospital by teacher Sarah McGrath.
Students were assigned to make five bracelets. They all kept two bracelets and donated three. They also constructed origami boxes and filled them with tissue paper and a bracelet to give to the patients.
Young patients go to the clinic weekly to get blood drawn. McGrath knows that there are always comfort items distributed in the room where height and weight are checked, because her daughter, Lili, was treated at the hospital for leukemia.
“My daughter went through treatment, and most of the items were directed to a younger age group. I wanted to donate bracelets because they are appropriate for all ages. It’s teenagers making items for other teenagers,” McGrath said.
