New furniture in the high school library should make the space more student-friendly and modern, Future Pathways Facilitator Cassidy Cooper said.
The new furniture consists of armchairs, cushioned seating, bookshelves, tables, and countertops. The new layout aims to make the library a comfortable place for students to study and socialize.
“I really like how welcoming it is. The soft furniture and the layout definitely encourage more kids to want to hang out here. Just the look of it is way more modern, so it just brings it into 2025 instead of the 1980s,” Cooper said.
Some of the furniture is specifically placed for easier social interaction.
“A lot of the furniture is facing each other so that it encourages collaboration and conversation and just captures that element of community and encourages student collaboration,” Cooper said.
While nothing has been approved, possible additional renovations could include new paint, removing the old brown countertops, replacing some bookshelves with student paintings, and possibly a Baldwin High School mural painting made by students, Cooper said.
