As the Pittsburgh Steelers approach Week 7, questions have arisen about whether Justin Fields should stay as the starter or if the team should give Russell Wilson a chance.
After having an underwhelming career in Chicago, the Steelers picked up Justin Fields on a one-year contract in the off season.
Wilson sounds like the much better option on paper. He is a veteran quarterback, a nine-time Pro Bowler who won the Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2014. Ever since the Steelers picked up Fields and Wilson, the debate over who should be the starter has continued.
Much of the blame for this quarterback controversy goes to Head Coach Mike Tomlin. He needs to stop fooling around and name the starting quarterback, instead of talking in circles anytime the question is asked.
Fields will play much better if he is named the starter. It will relieve a lot of pressure for him as a quarterback who is developing under a new offense.
Overall, Fields is the guy for Pittsburgh. His passing is still developing under a new offense, and fans should expect a breakout game for him in the upcoming weeks.
Wilson could be a playmaker for the Steelers, but it is very unlikely from what fans have seen from him while he was with the Broncos. Wilson has gotten old, and he has passed the peak of his career. Fields, meanwhile, played under a terrible offense in Chicago, and he is entering the prime years of his career, developing his play style.
This especially applies to Fields in the pocket. In Chicago, he was much more timid in the pocket, and while he would throw deep balls, he did not have the skillset nor the receiving corps to succeed. Now he is with the Steelers, who have a solid offensive line, a new offensive coordinator, and a legacy to maintain.
