The Baldwin girls and boys track teams took care of business on Wednesday with wins over Peters Township and Bethel Park
The teams got help from athletes across multiple events, with senior Brady Lavelle throwing a javelin personal record of 127 feet.
“I didn’t think I hit a PR – I thought I could have done better. So when I found out I threw one, it gave me confidence,” Lavelle said.
Senior Jake Kunzman, meanwhile, came first place in all throwing events to help the boys out as well. On the girls team, senior Brooklyn Lucas and junior Jazzy Green dominated in shot put, javelin, and discus.
Senior Mwango Kasuba said the field events and the 4×100 relay teams immensely helped both teams’ scores.
“I thought both boys and girls 4×100 did well, and the field events excelled,” Kasuba said.
The Highlanders’ mental approach was key.
“The mentality was there and everyone wanted to win. We were also supporting each other,” Lavelle said.
Kasuba agreed and said he has confidence heading into next Wednesday’s meet against Upper Saint Clair and Mt. Lebanon.
“I think the team is looking forward to becoming potential section champions this year. Next week, I think we have a pretty good chance against USC and Lebo,” Kasuba said.
