Baldwins girls tennis team competes in the fall, and boys compete in the spring.

Boys tennis lost 5-0 to South Fayette on Thursday.

South Fayette’s team was able to serve the ball well, sophomore Carter Smeal said.

“We need to get better at being aggressive, focussing on ourselves, getting some points, and winning some games,” Smeal said.

Junior Kelson Kleinhampl said Baldwin needs to improve on strategizing to meet their goal of making it to sections.

Kleinhampl said he and his doubles partner sophomore Hayden Swanson worked well together.

“We both played well at the net,” he said.

He noticed some strong points for the Highlanders during the match.

“Everybody seemed to be serving well,” Kleinhampl said.

Smeal, meanwhile, thought that the team had a good grasp on the basics of the game.

“We have been good at returning and rallying,” Smeal said.

Both Kleinhampl and Smeal said sophomore Nikita Petruk stood out at yesterday’s match.

“He’s doing everything well. His forehands look really good,” Kleinhampl said.

“Nikita did really well against the person he was playing and kept it pretty close,” Smeal said.

Smeal has high hopes for the rest of the season.

“I think we are already improving,” Smeal said. “Later on in the season, I think we will be able to win some matches.”

The team has its next match on Monday, a home game against Shaler.
