Mick Mars, who was the lead guitarist for the popular ’80s band Mötley Crüe, recently came out with his debut solo album, The Other Side of Mars.

This album is Mars’ most recent work after he left Mötley Crüe back in October 2022. Mars, 72, has been on a dry spell in terms of music due to his health condition, ankylosing spondylitis, which is a disease that causes back pain, swelling in the hands, and extreme tiredness.

All of these factors have recently limited Mars’s ability to perform and sing.

This album consists of similar sounds to Mars’ past music, which is heavily drum and guitar-focused. The album is only 39 minutes long, featuring just 10 songs.

The intro track, “Loyal to the Lie”, was initially released as Mars’s debut solo single back in October. This track is perfect to start off the album, as Mars performs powerful drumming with intense lyrics and vocals.

Other songs, such as “Right Side of Wrong” or “Undone,” have recently lured listeners in the most with their heavy metal flow.

Mars’ ability to perform songs has not changed over the decades. However, there is extreme repetitiveness throughout this album. Many songs have the same drumming sounds and flow.

These new songs lack the creativity, style, and flow that the popular Mötley Crüe once had.
