The Baldwin wrestling team defeated Upper Saint Clair 47-24 on Wednesday night to earn the team’s first spot in WPIAL playoffs in more than 20 years.
“It’s an honor. I’ve never felt so accomplished in my life as a team,” senior Keith Mincin.
Senior Riley Kavalo also said it was an important night.
“It was a big team win for us because now we are in playoffs,” Kavalo said.
Highlights in the match against USC included pins by many wrestlers, including Kavalo, Mincin, junior Ramil Islamov and senior Mario Del Rosario.
Having qualified for playoffs, the team looks forward to upcoming matches with confidence.
“We’ve worked really hard all season for this opportunity and all our work is finally playing off,” Islamov said.
In the weeks leading up to playoffs, the team intends to focus on personal development to help score more points overall.
“We have a lot of diverse wrestling styles on the team and it really works well towards our score in the end,” Mincin said.
After 20 years of not qualifying for playoffs, the team looks forward to the rest of the season. Their next match on Wednesday at home against Bethel Park
