We all have bad days that drag us down and make it impossible to put a smile on our faces. However, with a good movie and some snacks on the side, it’s possible to turn that frown upside down.

Here are a few movies that will make your day better since they contain positive messages – from valuable lessons for living your best life, through appreciating the love of a family, to the power of magic.

Last Holiday follows Georgia Byrd, a shy, insecure, young woman who is not overly ambitious in life and is secure in the place she is. Everything seems to be going fine until one day when she gets the news that she has a terminal illness and won’t have long to live.

Byrd then decides to follow the dreams that she had kept away and goes on a vacation to spend the rest of her life doing something that will make her happy.

Queen Latifah shines in this movie as Byrd. She puts on an excellent performance in the beginning as the insecure

woman and near the end as a cheerful, adventurous person.

The movie itself offers a wonderful lesson of chasing your dreams before it’s too late. It gives a message of finding yourself and learning to appreciate the gift of life.

Big Girls Don’t Cry…They Get Even, meanwhile, is about a girl named Laura Chartoff who struggles to find a place in her dysfunctional family.

After an argument with her stepfather, Laura decides to leave home and stay at her stepbrother’s place. When her parents arrive to take her back, she runs away. Laura gets entangled in different adventures throughout the time she stays away from her family.

Hillary Wolf does a wonderful job of portraying the character of Laura. She is lovable and entertaining throughout the movie. Viewers can clearly see all of the pain and insecurities she has surrounding her family.

Another movie to consider is filled with magic – and a bunch of undisciplined children who love to annoy all their nannies. Nanny McPhee  is all about the children of a widower who struggle with the aftermath of their mother’s death and their inability to find a sense of love with their grieving father. A nanny with supernatural abilities arrives at their place to teach them lessons about politeness, honesty, and consideration.

Emma Thompson shines as Nanny McPhee. She is the perfect embodiment of a stern yet loving person. Her formidable character melts gracefully as the lessons continue on for the children throughout the movie.

Aside from Thompson, the young actors also put forth commendable performances as undisciplined and wild children who deeply love each other and yearn for the same love in return from others.

Although the movie is for a younger audience, it teaches wonderful lessons of both thankfulness and forgiveness for everybody.
