Chartiers Valley defeated Baldwin boys tennis 4-1 on Thursday.

“The team that we were playing against had a high win percentage this year, so we didn’t know if we were going to win or not.” sophomore Leyton Yokopenic said.

Yokopenic and his brother, Braden, played doubles during the competition. Usually, the brothers would play one and two singles, but since Braden had some arm soreness, they decided to play together.

“I thought we did pretty good, considering how bad his arm is. It’s usually pretty hard for him to play and get through a match,” Yokopenic said.

The pair won the match with the first set being 6-2 and the second set also being 6-2. Leyton Yokopenic struggled a little during the match.

“I definitely need to work on my backhands and work more consistently and get the ball over the net more rather than hitting it into the net,” Yokopenic said.

Senior David Werner lost his individual match during the competition.

“Personally I could have done way better,” Werner said.

This is Werner’s last year on the tennis team and he said he is happy with his team as a whole.

“Obviously, I am not happy that it’s my last year, but I really liked the team and if I was going to have a last year of tennis, it would be this year with this team,” he said.
