Metallica has been a staple in thrash metal for years before switching to heavy rock, but their newest album, 72 Seasons, brings back the band’s original sounds, dating back to their first album.

“If Darkness Had a Son,” is the perfect representation of the band’s vibe. The intro shows that the band’s drummer, Lars Ulrich, has not lost his skill since the band formed in 1981. This song is similar to their hit song, “Master of Puppets,” which was featured in Stranger Things Season 4, with its tempo and beats.

Other songs that stand out are “Lux Æterna” and the title track, “72 Seasons.” “Lux Æterna” mainly focuses on lyrics and drums.

But “72 Seasons” focusses on every aspect of the band’s capabilities, especially those of lead guitarist Kirk Hammett. This song definitely shows the emotions of anger and retaliation.

These songs talk about pushing back, as the accelerating guitar tempos and the bass drum hits mimic that emotion.
