Baseball wins 1, loses 2 over break

The boys baseball team won one and lost two games over the break.

On Monday, the boys lost 8-6 to Hempfield.

Junior Adam Ledbetter thought they played good defense through the game and didn’t have many errors. He thought Hempfield was saved by a few lucky hits.

“They got saved by a couple home runs,” he said. “That’s all they really did well.”

Baldwin only had four hits but was able to stay in the game due to fielding.

“I had two hits while Jake Macaellaro scored twice,” Ledbetter said. “Gavin Sakley played well in the field.”

Last Wednesday, the boys lost 13-3 against Norwin. The team thought that they didn’t play well on defense. Norwin’s pitcher also threw a really strong game.

Last Tuesday, the boys beat Norwin by a score of 4-3. Senior Carson Chapel thought the team played great in the field all game.

“I thought we played incredible defense,” Chapel said. “We made some flashy plays at shortstop and right field to get out of an inning.”

He thought Norwin stayed strong through their fielding.

“They were not producing runs but kept up with making the routine plays,” he said. “They were grinding every at-bat they got throughout the game.”

Chapel said Ledbetter played well as he hit a home run. He thought they could improve on striking out less and making better contact.

Chapel threw six scoreless innings, dominating with his changeup and fastball mix of pitches.

“It allowed me to have Norwin hitters out in front so I could come back with a fastball,” he said.

This leaves the Highlanders’ record at 1-3 in section play, 3-6 on the season. The Highlanders play next on Tuesday 4 at Wallace.
