True Spirit is a good film but fails to show what it is really like to sail across the world.

This Netflix film is based on the real-life story of a 16-year-old girl, Jessica Watson, whose dream is to be the youngest person to sail alone, nonstop, around the world.

This movie focuses on Watson’s seven-month-long sailing experience and the tough hardships. The film also shows her calling her family and her mentor, Ben, to help her get through the challenges.

While the movie does a decent job of showing Watson’s time sailing, most of the movie is her calling back home. It jumps from time to time, but never really gives the audience a full representation of the sailing life as a young teenage girl.

The film captures the family and what they have to experience while having their daughter become recognized internationally. Still, it lacks her personal struggles and rather focuses on the outcomes.

Overall, True Spirit takes fans through the miracle story of Watson and her little sailing boat. It delivers a heartfelt story of a girl with a dream, yet leaves the audience wondering what 210 days at sea really looked like at such a young age.
