Five varsity bowling players competed in qualifiers for the singles championship on Wednesday, and three of them are moving on to regionals.

Seniors Bobby Benton and Nolan Malloy, sophomores Jon Clemons and Brady Malloy, and junior Andrew DeIuliis all made it to the qualifiers. Benton, Clemons, and Brady Malloy are moving on.

The players had to have an average score of above 170 to make it to qualifiers. Brady Malloy pre-qualified for regionals, while Benton and Clemons had cumulative scores of 581 and 565 respectively in three games to qualify.

They competed against players from about 30 other teams. The players with the top 40 scores were chosen to move on.

Benton said that the bowlers had a good mindset throughout the game.

“We all did a good job of staying relatively positive, even though it was a little frustrating sometimes,” he said.

While everyone played well, Nolan Malloy believes the team has room for improvements,

“We need to stop being too hard on ourselves. My first two games I was very stressed,” he said.

Regionals take place next Friday at Noble Manor Lanes.
