The Baldwin girls’ swim team won against Penn Hills on Thursday, while the boys’ team lost.

Junior Evan Stokes praised his teammates for putting in a lot of effort at the meet.

“My teammate Nolan Erimias had three or four best times. Joey Priano also stepped it up this meet,” Stokes said.

Junior Dylan Lubarski agreed that Erimias had a great performance.

“We were behind for most of the 400 meter freestyle, but Nolan pulled through with a really good time of 52 seconds. That caused us to win the race,” Lubarski said.

Stokes was somewhat surprised by the loss of the boys’ team.

“I’m not surprised that the girls’ team won, they’ve been doing really good. They work really well together every time they do relays. I’m definitely surprised at the boys’ loss though, especially with all of the good times we got,” Stokes said.

Lubarski says that the team has struggled this year due to a lack of participation.

“This year has been more difficult for the boys due a lack of numbers, in which we can really only have one relay team in most if not all of our meets,” Lubarski said.

Stokes is proud of his team, but still sees more potential for them to do better at future meets.

“I think people need to throw themselves at their events more, even if it’s not their favorite thing. Try and have fun with it,” Stokes said.

The team’s next meet is away against Central Catholic on Monday, January 30.
