The Baldwin gymnastics team won against North Allegheny in a meet on Thursday at Jewart’s Gymnastics.

The meet featured three teams: Baldwin, Thomas Jefferson, and North Allegheny. While Baldwin and TJ were both competing against North Allegheny, the two teams did not compete against each other. Baldwin received a score of 138.5, TJ 135.45, and North Allegheny 135.10.

Freshman Vivien Skalos praised sophomore Abby Rexrode for her performance at the meet.

“Abby did very well, especially since it was only her second meet since she came back from an injury. Annabelle Herrle also did very well,” she said. Skalos also enjoyed watching the members of the other teams compete.

“For NA I think they had very good bars, and for TJ they did very well on beam and floor,” Skalos said.

Skalos and the rest of the team are looking forward to the rest of the season, WPIALs, and state competitions, and she wants to especially improve on her pre-competition nerves.

“(I want to) be able to just get out there and not be nervous,” she said.

Skalos, a USAG gymnast, has been getting used to the way that meets are scored at the high school level and the tricks performed at both types of competitions.

“I have seen that the scores are very different from a USAG meet and there are lots of different tricks that we do that you don’t usually see in USAG,” she said.

“Everyone is very supportive and always cheers for everyone. Even though we don’t compete with TJ, we always cheer them on because we are still a big team,” Skalos said of the team dynamic throughout the season.

The team’s next meet is today against Pine Richland at Roots Gymnastics.
