The boy’s basketball team defeated Norwin 72-48 on Tuesday.

Senior James Wesling led the team in points with 20 followed by his brother, sophomore Nate Wesling, who had 19.

Senior James Wesling thought the fast start they had would dictate how the game would go.

“We started fast and strong,” Wesling said. “Starting out like that allowed us to cruise through the rest of the game without many problems.”

The Highlanders held their opponent to under 50 points, which was a big accomplishment for them. Senior Joey Carr thought that their defense is a key component to the team’s recent success.

“I thought we played defense really well. It was the first time in a long time in which we held the opponent to under 50 points,” Carr said.

Baldwin stayed in control when the second half started.

“It was the middle of the third quarter and we went on a run. It really separated us from them,” Carr said.

Wesling thought that most of their success came not on offense, but on defense.

“We defended well and rebounded well,” he said. “It really helped us get more offensive possessions.”

Norwin lost by a large amount, and it did not help that their best player was out with an injury.

“Norwin’s best player was out, but that didn’t change the way we played,” Carr said.

Carr also noted the Wesling brothers’ scoring abilities, and other players as well.

“The Wesling brothers found a way to score all game. Sophomore Adam Degenhardt brought energy from the bench and got in and scored his first varsity points.”

The older Wesling complimented his younger brother on the game he was able to put together.

“Nate Wesling was second on the team in scoring,” he said .”Nate Richards was passing well allowing for good open shots.”

Carr on the other hand compliments the Baldwin Boosters for supplying food for the team.

“I would like to shoutout the boosters, who gave us Domino’s pizza,” Carr said.

The boys play next on Friday at home against Hempfield at 7:30.
