The girls basketball team lost to Chartiers Valley on Friday night in a close game, but the opposing team was able to pull away in the fourth quarter.

Junior Katie Lucarelli felt they played really tough defense throughout.

“Their press was really hard to get past,” she said.

Junior Mallory Mezeivtch thought that Chartiers Valley played a lot more controlled than Baldwin.

“They were very disciplined,” she said. “They played consistently the entire game.”

The team also saw some good moments throughout.

“We kept the energy high all game.” Mezeivtch said.

Lucarelli also feels that the team communicated well.

“We talked a lot on offense and defense,” Lucarelli said.

Despite the bright spots, the team also sees multiple areas to improve on for the rest of the season. Mezeivtch thought fighting for extra offensive opportunities is something that can help them win games.

“We need to do better at rebounding on the offensive side, we should’ve had more,” she said.

Both girls saw underclassmen really stepping up and being an important part of the game.

“Mary Vargo was a big reason we kept in so close,” Lucarelli said. “She hustled for the whole game and gave it her all.”

“Laci Bernotas played well,” Mezeivtch said. “She is very skilled and has a bright future.”

The girls play tonight, January 9, at Canon Mac at 7:30.
