A dek hockey team composed of Baldwin students recently made it all the way to the South Hills Dek Hockey League Championships but got swept 2-0 to end their season.

The team of Baldwin students lost 4-3 in overtime in the first game and then lost 2-0 in the second game to lose the best-of-three series.

The team consisted of Baldwin students from various sports teams who came together for deck hockey competitions. The team lost the first four games of the season but then went on to win six games in a row, leading them to a spot in the championship.

For the second and final game of the series, the team had only six players due to a Baldwin ice hockey game that day. Also, rainy conditions played a role as well.

The deck was very slippery from all the rain during the day, not allowing our players to use our speed to our advantage,” senior Matt Heenan said.

Overall, though, Heenan said he was happy with how the season went.

“With this being our first season and more than half of our team never playing before, I’m proud of us for making it to the championship,” he said.

Other team members were seniors Michael Migale, Joey Dulya, Levi McCrea, Vince Tortoreti, Nick Buys, Andrew Barrett, Philip Pegher, Brady Hartman, Carson Chapel, Joe Carr, A.J. Cherico, and sophomore Adam Degenhardt.

The team plans on coming together again in the spring with hopes to win the championship.
