The girls basketball team fell to Upper Saint Clair on Thursday.

Although the girls lost 66-49, sophomore Mary Vargo said the team was able to get some easy points and get to the foul line. Freshman Laci Bernotas agreed.

“We got to the foul line, and we were moving the ball well on offense,” Bernotas said.

The girls did not let the loss define their attitude about the effort they put into the game. They stayed positive and remained in the game against USC, a tough competitor, for most of the game. Vargo credited junior Mallory Mezevitch for the motivation.

“Mallory played very well. We were down by 10 and she cut the lead down to three and got us back in the game. Her effort kept us in the game,” Vargo said.

Although they played a close game, Vargo said the team can play more consistently.

“We can’t take plays off and we need to do good in the practice before the game,” she said.

The next game is against Peters at Baldwin on Monday at 7:30 pm.
