The ice hockey team came from behind to secure a 3-2 win in a game that went to a shootout Thursday night against Bethel Park.

Bethel took the lead in the first period, but a goal from senior Nick Buys tied it up. After that, Bethel took the lead again, but they were soon met with a goal from captain Tanner Plinta, sending the game to overtime.

Overtime was scoreless, taking the game to a shootout.

Senior Goaltender Alex Golvash stopped 31 of 33 shots during the game and made two saves in the shootout. The game-winning goals in the shootout were scored by senior Joey Stanick and freshman Cole Reed.

This was a big win for the boys after losing in overtime the last time they faced off against the Blackhawks.

“It was nice to grind out a good game and come out with a win,” senior forward Levi McCrea said.

Senior Vince Tortoreti feels that the team played well offensively.

“We played well, cycling the puck in the offensive zone with a lot of good shot opportunities,” Tortoreti said.

One thing Baldwin may need to work on is some of their defensive zones.

“We have to be better at not letting shots in the slot because Bethel did a good job passing to the guy at center ice,” Tortoreti said.

This takes the team to 5-4-1 as they prepare for their next game against Central Catholic on the road on Jan. 6.
