Baldwin’s competitive cheer team placed second in both their mat and game day routines on Saturday at IUP.

Senior Samantha Davis thinks the team performed well under pressure.

“Hempfield placed first. They’re a good team but we have the same skills. They just have more people, that’s all,” Davis said. “I think we performed a lot better than we have in the past weeks.”

Senior Alana Beerman agreed.

“I think we all did the best we could do for the competition this weekend. We all did our best job, and it went as well as we could have expected,” Beerman said.

Beerman complimented Anne Hampton and Grace Iaquinta on their performance.

“Anne has the best facials during our game day performance. In the crowd you would just want to be cheering with her,” Beerman said. “Grace does a great job at tumbling that not everyone else can do and works really hard.”

Beerman thinks the team will succeed as the season progresses.

“We’re working really hard to make things more difficult and to be more consistent with everything and hit our routine the best we can,” Beerman said.

The Highlanders’ next competition is Dec. 4th at Bishop McCort High School.
